Baalbek, the city of the sun, is a large archaeological complex that includes the ruins of an ancient Roman city, listed by UNESCO on the World Heritage List. Baalbek involve many historical monuments, the most important of which are: The Temple of Jupiter, located next to the Monastery of Saint John, the Temple of Bacchus, which construction dates back to the second century AD, and is distinguished by its giant gate, which is 13 meters high and 6 meters wide, and the Temple of Venus, a building topped by a dome, which the Byzantines turned into a church of Saint Barbara.

The ancient city of Anjar is the only Lebanese site from the Umayyad era. It is one of the largest fully built Umayyad sites remaining in the east. It was listed among the World Heritage Sites in 1984 by UNESCO. The sections of the ancient rectangular town include a large popular market, steam baths, the palace, the mosque, and the outdoor courtyard.
